Empowering women to give • serve • live abundantly

Wise Women is a community of female leaders that gathers once a month to connect, rest, and grow among other encouraging and vibrant women. Wise Women was created with a desire to empower women in their long-term finances, but it quickly expanded to equipping women in making wise decisions in all areas of life.

Each month’s luncheon features a keynote speaker who shares on a particular topic. Our speakers have covered both professional and personal topics, from building your business and developing your brand to finding rest in busy seasons and growing in self‑confidence.

Samantha Compton

President & Founder of Wise Women
President & CEO of Insight Wealth LLC

In her financial planning practice, Insight Wealth, Samantha helps couples and single women map out their financial futures, including a well-defined plan for when they will be able to retire. She especially enjoys facilitating money conversations between spouses as well as empowering and supporting her single female clients so they feel more confident than overwhelmed or unsure.

That desire to empower women in their long-term finances led her to start Wise Women in 2017. What started as a monthly luncheon has now expanded to many other offerings. Everything Wise Women does is about educating and empowering women within a community that fosters authentic connection and support!

Samantha is a women’s investment specialist and places high value on financial education. She also was honored to serve as the 2021 resident financial advisor for Smart Women Smart Money magazine.

Outside of work, Samantha enjoys traveling with her husband Craig and spending time with their three children, Gabriel, Nathan and Lizzy. Their blended family is united by a funny, ornery puppy named Louis Vuitton. Samantha has always been a fan of music and enjoys singing and playing guitar.

Executive Team

The Executive Team handles month-to-month operations and provides practical direction for Wise Women.

Kendri Burkett

Sponsorship Coordinator

Kendri is a senior sales director with Mary Kay and has been running her business since 2003. In her previous career, she was a personal chef, and she continues to find joy in cooking.

She’s a gatherer and connector and loves trying new things. Kendri is an Enneagram 1 who values learning and personal growth. She loves reading and soaking up time with her family — her husband (married since 1997) and two nearly-grown children.

Kendri heads the Sponsorship Team and evaluates attendee feedback, ensuring that Wise Women is fully operational and at its best each month! She has attended the Overland Park location since April 2022.

Misty Hughes

Vice President

Misty is a speaker, coach, author, and trainer. She launched Lead-Her Ministries in 2020 and works with women to live, lead, and love from a place of abundance. She has a passion for connecting with others and helping them shine.

Misty loves traveling with her husband, as well as making memories and leaving a legacy as “Grammy” to six beautiful grandchildren. She is always in search of her next great adventure.

Misty has been a huge asset to Wise Women, serving behind the scenes and envisioning and implementing the Ambassador Team. She started attending Wise Women in 2021 and primarily attends the Lee’s Summit luncheons.

Rosalie Newkirk

Nonprofit Coordinator

After 30 years as a CPA, Rosalie is transitioning into her next purpose in life. Until summer 2023, she was a former shareholder at BerganKDV.

Rosalie loves cooking, biking, and reading. She deeply values her time spent with her granddaughters, taking them on what they call “grandma trips.”

Rosalie serves on the Executive Team as the point person for Wise Women’s nonprofit partnerships. She is one of the women who has attended Wise Women since the very beginning! She normally attends Wise Women in Lee’s Summit, and is also a member of the Advisory Board.

Cindy Stokes

Ambassador Coordinator

After 25 years in the banking industry, Cindy transitioned to the legal profession and has been the client services director for The Love Law Group since 2007.

When she is not working, Cindy is busy in her local community helping her three adult daughters with their faith-based preschool and K–6 Christian academy. She values her time with her husband, their daughters, and their families, including their six grandchildren.

Cindy leads the Ambassador Team and has been involved with Wise Women since it began in August 2017. She attends both the Overland Park and the Lee’s Summit luncheons and also serves on the Advisory Board.

Laura Uber

Communications Coordinator

Laura owns a graphic design business, Design on Purpose, where she specializes in brand and website development. She helps brands present themselves more clearly and consistently, and she loves to see small business owners gain confidence through the brand process.

When she’s not working, she loves being creative in other ways — drawing, writing, calligraphing, and sewing. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, their two dogs, and their families.

Laura heads the Media Team for Wise Women and is also a member of the Advisory Board. She first attended Wise Women Overland Park in July 2022.

Kimberly Wright

Speaker Coordinator

Kimberly is co-founder and president of Exodus Advisory Services, a family-owned and operated business since 2000. She loves connecting people, especially making introductions that may develop into mutually beneficial relationships. She is also an author and speaker.

Kimberly earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner!). She has been married to her husband since 1996, and together, they have four children. She loves spending time with her family and being outdoors.

For Wise Women, Kimberly assists in securing and coordinating with our high-quality speakers. Kimberly first attended Wise Women Overland Park in late spring 2022.

History of Wise Women

Having been a single woman, trying to navigate financial matters on her own for many years, Samantha had a vision for creating a safe place for women to come together to learn about and support each other in financial matters.

In August 2017, that vision came to life as the first Wise Women Luncheon was held in a small meeting room at a restaurant in Lee’s Summit.

The group quickly grew out of that space. With the help of supportive sponsors, they began meeting monthly at The Stanley Event Space in downtown Lee’s Summit. In March 2022, Wise Women started a chapter at Meadowbook Park Clubhouse in Overland Park.

As Wise Women grows, it remains committed to empowering women leaders in our communities and cultivating a place for authentic connection and support.
